A Tiny UK Holiday - Day 1

Hello!!! I know, I know, it's been a minute since we last spoke here, or maybe even in person. Sorry! I have been traveling, mostly for work and haven't had too many not-to-miss moments that I wanted to share with you. That, however, ends now! I arrived in London yesterday for a couple of bonus days before work stuff starts later on this week.

I arrived around 11am and after dropping my bags at my hotel near Paddington Station (they are so strict about check-in times here), I took the underground to the Victoria & Albert Museum. Having just watched Season 1 of Victoria on Masterpiece and seeing the movie Victoria and Abdul, I was definitely in the mood for some royalty. The museum, which boasts over 4.5 million objects, including this amazing ceramic tiled fireplace from Istanbul, circa 1731.

There were so many amazing jewels (although the glass cases obscured my chances of getting a good photo) and furniture and silver and gold ornaments of every shape and size. This massive silver wine chiller was large enough to be a bathtub. I literally couldn't get my arms to span wide enough to match it. So much opulence!

After wandering about the museum for a couple of hours I was starting to feel the effects of not having much sleep the night before on the place ride over the pond. I took the train back to my hotel's neighborhood and found a fish & chips shop. They actually had a reasonable portion for a good price, so I had dinner at Micky's Fish and Chips.

After I ate, I headed back to my hotel to entertain myself until a respectable bedtime of 8:30pm, which is my standard rule when I am traveling to a timezone greater than four hours from my own. I managed to do that and fell asleep right away, only to be wide awake at 12am until about 3:45am. Oh well, there's always tomorrow!
