Getting There

So, as you know from my mobile posts, I am currently waiting for a 12 hour delay to be over for my flight to the capital city in Madagascar. Apparently that is fairly normal here. With the government in shambles, there aren't really rules that the airlines have to go by. I will hopefully get in at midnight and stay the night and fly to JoBurg, South Africa tomorrow and then onto Paris, Chicago and finally KC!

I won't get into all the particulars now, but I will say that this was a wild time. I hadn't really expected things to be the way they were. I was fairly prepared equipment-wise but my tent started leaking after the first day of rain, only made worse by the nine more days of rain that happened over the rest of the time. Leaky! I should have  followed the directions to bring a tent repair kit, tents really aren't made for these conditions out here for sure.

Man, I can't even think to start telling you things now, but look forward to posting stories and photos. I hope you all have been well this past month and I look forward to catching up with all of you soon!
The fun begins. Flight to Tana today was supposed to leave at 10am and is now leaving at 10pm. Bonus beach day I guess.

Lots of stories and pix to follow in the coming weeks. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. I am healthy and happy. Flying home Friday.
Just made it out of the bush. We ended our time there with five days of rain. Looking forward to sleeping indoors tonight and taking a shower.

Hello from Africa

So, I made it. This will unfortunately be my only post as we go into the bush tomorrow and will be there until I leave. The internet is very slow in the town and I am badly using a French keyboard. It is so much different than I had imagined. Really hot and humid for starters, but good. Hard to believe I am really here. We are in the town of Fort Dauphin now and leave for St. Luce tomorrow. We were supposed to leave today but the bridge we need was out, not sure what difference a day makes but we may drive to the bridge, cross the river by foot over the bridge and get a different car on the other side. We went to a lemur reserve yesterday and had lemurs jumping on us and eating out of our hands. The malaria threat has been repeatedly covered and we are all looking out for it and some sort of flea that burrows into your feet. Ah, the joys of travel. I have been healthy and happy so far so here is to more of that. Thanks for checking in with me and if I can find a connection in the bush you will hear from me again...
